General description of the collection: The James B. Lampert papers include general officer's papers consisting mostly of official papers covering his last two assignments. Some papers on personnel matters (draftees, training, and reserves). Most papers cover his tenure as High Commissioner for the Ryukyus from 1969 to 1972 and his overseeing of the reversion of Okinawa to the Japanese government. Civil administration is covered in some depth including the riots. Material found on his tour as Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Manpower and Reserve Affairs, 1966-1969.
